Joaquin Turina Scène andalouse for viola, piano & string quartet
The conductor, I think, is Živa Ploj Peršuh.
This is awfully nice. Tonal for Toch. Good performers. Beautifully executed live. This one is easy to listen to.
Beautiful performance and orchestra, great music!
Cette interprétation vigoureuse de la Romance est probablement ce qu'espérait Mx Bruch au départ ; Bravo !
my favorite version ever !
우와 선생님 사랑해요
Congratulations for this performance. Superb!

Per another questioner, who did the arrangement for orchestra? I like it. It reminds me of some of Shosty's string quartets rewritten for chamber orchestra.
Bravo !!!
Needed a Romanian conductor. Blood sausage, onions, cabbage and paprika.Yes. Love the film scores but there's more. Korngold can't touch this.
OMG! What delicious playing!! Here is the Food of Love; play on!
Chaud chaud chaud chostakovich!
チェロでもなくバイオリンでもなく摩訶不思議な音。
Bravo!
A szólista kicsit túldíszítetten játssza a Largót. Most hallgattam meg 6 előadást, egyik szólista sem cifrázta. De ez a barokk előadásmód sajátja. Viszont ő játssza a legszebb kadenciát a Largo vége felé. Az Allegrót is cifrázza. Összességében szép előadás!
who's violist? Nice playing.
This piece is definitely not one of Berlioz's best. The soloist and orchestra play it well. That's about it.
Pinchas! Watch this!!!! You could really learn how to play viola here!!!!!!
I love this piece. And beautifully played. And to hear the magical sound of the viola over top of everything. It's so lush. I wish he had given more to the viola in the middle. The fourth movement runs on for far far too long. But I love all the Beethovenish stuff. And a wonderful wrap-up
An epic composer who should get more mainstream attention. The Golden Voyage of Sinbad is one of my favorite movies, and everything else I've hear of his is epic
Who arranged this for orchestra?
Gilad, as you know, there are many technicians on viola, but you have that rare gift that cannot be learned. You are able to sing with every nuance and color of a human voice-from a baby’s whisper to a thunderous revolt. This was magnificent. Thank you!
Dear Judith! Thanks so much I totally identify with his last work… It’s made by Vladimir Mendelssohn who recently passed away. Rentabel from Sikorski. Regards Gilad
Wow, very short last movement---less than 2 minutes. Okay, what did you do with the rest of it? Own up.
I just watched several versions of Harold in Italy, and this is the best. There's an abundance of great violinists now and music. The viola needs more great music. Wonder how Bruch, Mendelsohn, and Tchaikovsky would sound on a viola?
Bravo!!!! Very well understood the intimate and deep spirit of this work, without flamenco excesses, as sometimes happens. Congratulations Gilad Karni from Spain.
Thanks so much Pedro! I love this piece
👏👏👏👏bravo
Great composer, Great solist. Super!!!!
16:26!
I don't like this for so many reasons, but I'll leave it to this: 1. The preformance seemed a little passionless. 2. Shostakovich wrote the accompaniment FOR the piano, it is a piano acccompaniment and fully brings the beauty of the piano out.
You play this piece yourself and post it. It is not easy to play.
Passionless? really??
Are we hearing the same performance lol? there is nothing passionless about this
Lmao that violist is literally dancing with his playing. He’s very into it. I see nothing but passion.
this is a really fine performance, great colour and that's not easy
Gilad Karni violist.
Bravo!
No disrespect to maestro karni but orchestra versions don't seem to come together so well compared to piano. 😅 piano gives just the right amount of accompaniment and ambience rather than obscuring the solo in parts..
Hd!
bravo tysm for posting a full recital! I came from your schumann quartet in hochrein video, who is the maker?
nice
Una de mis favos. Como disfruto la cumbia con orquesta.
Damn that viola THICC
I have a number of Harold of Italy recordings , each of them at least good. This one talks, sings and vibrates at a wondrous level -definitely worth returning to often !
What instrument? Violin?
The most famous violist of Berlioz' time, to whom the piece was dedicated, refused to play it, because the viola was not featured sufficiently. Some of today's listeners make the same complaint. If your standard is not, "what gives the audience pleasure?" you are missing the point. I love the recording and I have always loved Berlioz.
Lol the lady in the back was trying not to laugh
Congratulations!! Take a look at my MOZARTIANA FANTASY, here in UA-cam available. I would like to have a recording of a violist like you.
That viola is huge. Glad I'm not playing that monster.
It’s an Iizuka model viola (need to see it up close to see if it made by Philadelphia maker Hiroshi Iizuka himself). The outline is based on the viola d’amore, and the sloping shoulders allow for more maneuverability despite the enlarged pattern.
*Viola has entered the room; everyone, **#bow** down.*
While I find much to admire here, I have also to say that, for me, the slightly bizarre decision -- well, more than slightly, actually -- to have the solo viola play along with the final tutti completely ruins the program of the symphony. It seems a feeble attempt to make "Harold" into what it manifestly is not: namely, a viola concerto.
On the one hand, fair point. On the other hand, who cares? You can't even hear him in those final tuttis. And it does save having the discomfort of just sitting there. Which is just as weird. The performance has a vitality that very few others have. I think overall it is a very strong performance.
@@larryeckerling2472 Yes, it's a fine performance indeed. But the weirdness and discomfort of Harold at the end is part and parcel of the story--that of an artistic soul who has been in the world without finding a place in the world; one who in the end must step aside and become an observer, rather than a participant, in the brigands' partying hardy. Well, he was always an outsider at the party anyway, and seems to have spent most of his time there dreaming of his previous experiences of being alongside, but not truly participating in, the events depicted in the previous movements. That is why, to me, altering the score so that the solo violist plays to the end seems to completely miss the point of the entire symphony. I won't go so far as to insist that it's a cheap trick intended to garner stronger applause for the soloist at the end of the performance. But I won't say that it's not, either. I'll just say that I don't understand any reason for it.
Even with the odd sound and a couple of editing glitches, this is a remarkable performance. There is so much to praise here! Start with the luscious sound of the viola and how the soloists uses it to characterize Harold. Next is the masterly conducting. For instance, the end of the first movement is not rushed off its feet; this gives the instrumental lines time to find their shape. It is true that the trumpets are too loud, but against this, consider that whenever the woodwinds double or accompany the viola, the change in tone color is audible, which is seldom true in commercial recordings with a spotlight on the soloist. The orchestra is accomplished and plays this (undoubtedly difficult) score very well. For me this performance ranks with almost any recording I have heard (and I have heard many).
Unbelievable, almost like a small kid made a video and audio production. Full of childish ideas and effects. It speaks of the conductor and the orchestra too, they should not have allowed this! I can only suspect that some major disasters occurred at the very beginning, and, especially, at 24.17, with a cut of one minute+ of music. Disappointing. I have never seen or heard such a thing. Romania is a very important music country..
